Most of my family members came from St. Francois County,
Missouri. Others came from Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma,

Born in Bismarck, Missouri and living in Newburg, Missouri and
University City, Missouri. William's family followed the work.
Prior to WWII, William worked for Kroger's in St. Louis, St.
Louis City, Missouri. He played minor league baseball and was
considered a great pitcher. His hand was injured, split between
the fingers by a line drive, and the possibility of a major
league career was ended.
From 1941 to 1945, after being drafted, he served in the Air
Force. He was stationed in Panama and New Guinea. His rank was
Master Sergeant and he was responsible for the servicing of
fighter aircraft.
After the war, his parents, siblings, and himself moved to Los
Angeles, CA. He worked for Douglas Aircraft Corporation.
William and Verona and family moved back to Newburg, Missouri in
1964. He purchased Spradling's Garage and opened Swiney Auto
Service. He operated the garage until his retirement.
William died of lung cancer.
