Pat Highley, 77, of Big Spring died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at her
residence. Memorial Service will be at 4:00 PM Wednesday at
Myers & Smith Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First
Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at
Myers & Smith Funeral Home following the service. An additional
Memorial Service will be at 5:00 PM Friday at the First United
Methodist Church of Blooming Grove, Texas with Rev. Jonathan
Speegle, pastor, officiating.
She was born December 22, 1926, in Kerens, Texas to Adren
Westbrook and Lula McSpadden Westbrook. She married Darel
Highley, December 25, 1948, at Blooming Grove, Texas. They came
to Big Spring in 1952 from Lubbock. Mr. Highley preceded her in
death, October 16, 1976. Mrs. Highley was a homemaker, and had
also taught school and sold real estate. She later worked
several years at Howard County Abstract and Walton Morrison Law
Offices. She was very active in the PTA and was President of the
State PTA. She was a member of the Big Spring Kennel Club, Beta
Sigma Phi, the Encouragers, which was a grief support group for
widows and widowers, and the First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one daughter: Marka Mitchell and her husband
Clay of Sanderson; two sons: Dee Highley and his wife Kathy of
Big Spring and Bob Highley and his wife Shellye of Lubbock; two
sisters: Wanda Sanders of Kaufman and Babe Crider of
Breckenridge; nine grandchildren: Tanya Hartman of Bangs, Texas,
Charlet Robinson of Albany, Oregon, Kaley Highley of Abilene,
Carol Dockrey of Lamesa, Trey Mitchell of Sanderson, Ryan
Highley of Lubbock, Colby Mitchell of Sanderson, Keith Woodruff
of Dallas, and Christina Woodruff of Big Spring; two great
grandchildren: Maegan Hartman and Katie Hartman both of Bangs.
