Deceased Name: Muriel F. Highley
Muriel F. Highley, 83, of 2449 Highway 13, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Aaron Telecky of Maranatha Bible Church. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 4 to 7 p.m. today, and at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Survivors include two sons, Terry L. and wife Barbara of Henderson, Nev., and Ernest A. and wife Meredith of Sun Prairie, Wis.; four sisters, Avelda Daley of New York, Margaret Starkey of Marion, Eileen Villagrana of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Jones of Washington, Iowa; two brothers, Paul Hanssen of San Diego and George Hanssen of Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Otto Hanssen; and a sister, Dorothy Lloyd.

Muriel was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Monticello, Iowa, to Arthur and Blanche Eilers Hanssen. She married Charles L. Highley on Sept. 2, 1939, in Monticello. He died April 15, 1992. She was a member of Maranatha Bible Church, Ambar Grotto Auxiliary and the U.S. Homemakers Circle. She was an avid quilter and gardener and collected dolls and antiques.

A memorial fund has been established.
