Long Time Citizen Called
Sunday morning at 2:15 death once more invaded the ranks of Sidney's pioneer
citizens and this time claimed for his own Mary A. Lacy, who had attained the
age of 80 years, 8 months and 7 days.
Born at Gallatin, Missouri, on September 1, 1852, Mary Angeline was the only
daughter of Albert and Mary Venable. Her youth was spent in and near her
birthplace. On January 12, 1873, she was married to Theodore A. Lacy of Sidney,
who died March 8, 1932.
Ten children were born to this union, Mrs. W. T. Orr of Fulton, California;
Raymond Lacy, Wiley, Colorado; Mrs. R. B. Smith of Nebraska City; Mrs. Edith
Woods of Dalles, Oregon; Albert J. Lacy of Omaha; Charles and Floyd Lacy of
Sidney. Oscar L. met death in an automobile mishap in 1918 and two children died
in infancy. The grandchildren and great grandchildren number nineteen. Though
she had been a semi-invalid for a number of years, the end came Sunday morning
swiftly and without warning. One daughter, Mrs. R. B. Smith, and the son Floyd
were at her beside at the time.
Mrs. Lacy was converted in her early youth and ever walked in the path of the
righteous. Though long a sufferer, she bore her affliction uncomplainingly, and
her cheerful outlook upon life was ever an inspiration to her friends, who were
indeed legion.
Funeral services are to be held this afternoon from the home, in charge of Rev.
C. W. Howard of the Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery.
