PETTIBONE -- Lewis E. ""Pete'' Highley, 81, Pettibone, died Dec. 27, 1994, in a Jamestown nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at American Lutheran Church, Pettibone, with burial in Melville Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington. Visitation also will be held at the church one hour before services.

Lewis E. Highley, known as ""Pete,'' was born Oct. 26, 1913, at Melville, the son of Emmett and Clara (Zink) Highley. He was educated at Melville and Bordulac. On March 5, 1938, Pete was united in marriage to Mildred Glass at Moorhead, Minn. Following their marriage, they lived at Melville. Pete began working for the Peavey Grain Elevator Co. in Melville and worked there eight years. In 1952 they moved to Pettibone where Pete managed the Peavey Elevator for the next 25 years. He served many years on the Pettibone City Council, enjoyed his family and friends, hunting, fishing and bowling. Mr. Highley entered the Central Dakota Village in Jamestown in October of 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Ernest and Joanne, and Keith, all of Bismarck, and Tom, Dodge; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Jim Sleeper, Northwood; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Thompson, Glenfield, and Marion Krakowski, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by one son, Larry; his parents, Emmett and Clara Highley; and one sister, Rena.
