Jean H. MANUELL
 

HUTSONVILLE, Ill. - Jean H. Manuell, 85, of Hutsonville died Thursday, March 24, 2005, in Town and Country Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

He retired as assistant regional superintendent of schools for Lawrence and Crawford counties in 1987. He was born to John William Manuell and Mary Dewella Highley Manuell.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily Marie Ellis Manuell. He married Dorothy Freeman Dickey in 1982, and she survives.

He also is survived by his children and their spouses, Richard Ellis and Lori Manuell of Marshall, Jacqueline and Gerrik Grove of Villa Park, Brian and Terri Dickey of Palestine, and Stephanie and Dan Serpentelli of Tampa; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Manuell, Shelley Grove McManhon, Erin Grove, Jessica Grove York, Stephanie Richardson, Stacy Richardson, Matthew Dickey, Elizabeth Dickey, Kelly Dickey, Luke Serpentelli and Justina Serpentelli; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Richardson; three sisters, Jeanette Williamson, Dorothy Hawley, and Daisy Walker and husband Jack; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Jacqueline Corpin, Joan Spies, June Mullner and Georgia Coleman; and one brother, William Manuell.

He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Hutsonville United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. He was a certified lay speaker for the Methodist Church. He was a member of the 55-year Master Mason Palestine Masonic Lodge 849, was a 50 year member of Robinson Post 69 American Legion, a member of Elks Lodge 1188 in Robinson, Crawford County Shrine Club, Hutsonville Historical Society, Hutsonville Community Club, Hutsonville Friends of the Library, and Crawford County Retired Teachers Association. He helped form the Hutsonville Ruritan Club and served Lincolnland District Ruritan as a zone governor and governor. Services are 2 p.m. CST Saturday in Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with the Rev. Lynette Barnett officiating.

Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Hutsonville Historical Society.
