NICHOLS, James Arthur, 70, of Roanoke, formerly of Check, passed away Friday, January 14, 2000 at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. Surviving are his companion Katherine Lovern of Roanoke; two sons and wives, Clinton and Connie Nichols of Pilot, Ronnie and Rachel Nichols of Meadowview; three daughters and husbands, Mary and Bill McKinley of Saltville, Linda Nichols-Plowman and Grant of Myrtle Point, Ore., Wanda and John Miller of Fredericksburg; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; four sisters, Arleen Walters and Pauline Radford of Roanoke, Aberdean Radford of Salem, and Lucille Schilling of Vinton. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Salem Church Cemetery (Head of the River) - Copper Hill, with Rev. Larry Meadors officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd.
