James Lollar, 76

James Lollar, 76, of Amarillo, Texas died Thursday, Jan. 17,
2008, at VistaCare Hospice in Lubbock, Texas.
James died from cancer. He was in a hospice in Lubbock, Texas,
and on his last afternoon the nurse told him “everything is
going to be all right” and he repeated after her “everything is
going to be all right” - then about 3:14 p.m. he went to his
heavenly home.
James was born in Hooker, Okla., July 11, 1931, to John Benton
and Mayme Highley Lollar. James attended the Hooker Schools. He
was a cement finisher and worked in construction.
He was united in marriage to Della Colleen Haines and three
children were born to this union, Brenda, Janet and Sam.
James had many interests, including playing the harmonica and he
was a one-finger piano player. In his younger years he was on
the Hooker Baseball Team. He loved to skate, bowl, dance and
play shuffleboard. He could do marvelous impressions of Al
Jolson singing Mammy and Swanee.
When James attended church at Morning Star Church the preacher
called him Little David and would ask if he was ready to play
his harmonica, which he did and everyone enjoyed his talent.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Benton and Mayme
Highley, sisters, Irma Dixon and June Woods and brothers Earl,
Jack & Loren John Lollar.
He is survived by his children Brenda Gayle Grooms of
Springfield, Missouri, Janet and husband Eric Welker of Meade,
Kan., and Sam Lollar of Hannibal, Missouri; six grandchildren,
Cosette, Kristi, Erika, Miki, Raistlin and Charles; four
sisters, Joye and husband Calvin Hicks of Guymon, Marie and
husband Merle Hicks of Hough, Okla., Alice & husband Sam Hayden
of Fowler, Kan., Esther and husband Corky Parker of Beaver,
Okla.; three brothers, Wayne Lollar of Tecumseh, Okla., Clayton
Lollar of Larned, Kan., Byron and wife Beth Lollar of Amarillo,
Texas.
Other survivors are his sisters-in-law, Waunita Lollar,
brothers-in-laws John Dixon, Clifton Woods, many nieces, nephews
and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at
the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Okla., with Rev. Odie Nunley
officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed
by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma.
Memorials are suggested for family use and may be left at
Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. Box 745, Hooker, OK, 73945.
