Jack B. Akers, 83, of Charles Town, W.Va., died on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the VA Medical Center , Martinsburg, W.Va. Mr. Akers was born on April 21, 1924 in Roanoke to the late Claude B. and Edith Woolwine Akers. He was also preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Mr. Akers retired after 35 years with AT&T. He was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church, past president of Charles Town Kiwanis, member of Jackson-Perks American Legion Post #71 and the 40&8, AT&T Pioneers, VFW Memorial Post #3522, Sleepy Hollow Country Club and a charter member of Locust Hill Golf Club. He was a faithful blood donor. Mr. Akers served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and Korea. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Katherine Akers of the home; a son, G. Alan Akers and wife, Lona of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a daughter, Lynn Glass of Charles Town, W.Va.; grandchildren, Justin Akers, Ashley Akers, and Ariel Akers; two sisters, Vera Johnson of Valdasta, Ga. and Jackie Akers of Myrtle Beach, S.C. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, W.Va. Chapter Office, 1111 Lee St., E. Charleston, W.Va. 25301 or the Charles Town Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 89, Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.
