Deceased Name: Ernest Highley

Ernest E. Highley, 61, Bismarck, died May 7, 2002, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Holy Cross Cemetery, Steele.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. today at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, and from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ernest was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Carrington, the son of Lewis and Mildred (Glass) Highley. He was raised and educated in Melville until the age of 11 when they moved to Pettibone where he graduated from high school. Following high school he worked for Shafer construction as a carpenter. He and Joanne J. Rohrich were married June 25, 1962, in Steele. He worked as a mechanic at a Standard Station in Beach from 1965 to 1966 and at Kopps Standards in Bismarck from 1967 to 1981. Ernest was forced into retirement in 1983 due to medical complications.

He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, hunting and shooting events, all done with his family. He took pride in passing along the values of outdoor life by taking his family hunting and fishing. He was dedicated to supporting his children at shooting events. He was always willing to help people who were less fortunate and was a member of the Church of the Ascension.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children, Sandra Marie and her husband, Timothy Blanchard, Fayetteville, Ark., David Lewis and his wife, Candace Highley, Viborg, S.D., and Craig Alan and his wife, Karla Highley, Eau Claire, Wis.; four grandchildren, Bradey, Tracy, Jesse and Skyler; one great-grandchild, Brandon; two brothers, Keith and Tom Highley; one sister, Kathy Sleeper and her husband, Jim; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mildred Highley; and one brother, Larry.
