Edmon served in the United States Army during WWII. He spent 26 months as a prisoner of war. He was an active member of the American Legion, serving as the Commander of George S. Berry, post 575, from 1960 to 1961, and again from 1967 to 1968. He was a member of the American Ex-POWs. He also served as assistant Scout leader for Boy Scouts Troop 11 of Lubbock.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Anna Jane Hartman and husband David of Plano; son, Bill Hardy and wife Cynthia of Lubbock; granddaughter, Emily Hartman; grandsons, Christopher Ross Hardy and wife Carrie, and Timothy Patrick Hardy; and a special friend, Virginia Pendergrass.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to any military active duty origination or to the Boy Scouts of America.
