Deceased Name: OBIT - AKERS, CALVIN C.
AKERS, Calvin C., 83, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, February 2,
2000. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alvin
Ashby and Edna Naff Akers; also two brothers, Herman L. and
Harry T. Akers. He was a veteran of World War II U.S. Army Coast
Artillery Pacific Theater, a lifelong member of Belmont Baptist
Church where he was very active with the Sunday School
Department. He was a grocery buyer for over 50 years, 20 of
which were with the Kroger Co. He is survived by his wife of 51
years, Helen Mason Akers; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin D.
and Catherine B. Akers; one grandson, Andrew Mason Akers; two
sisters, Mae A. Antel and Nancy A. Milam; three sisters-in-law,
Ruby D. and Marion B. Akers and Ruth M. Slusser; one
brother-in-law, James W. Slusser; a number of nieces and
nephews. A memorial service will be held at Oakey's Roanoke
Chapel on Saturday, February 5, 2000 at 1 p.m. with Dr. Robert
Wayne officiating. The family will receive friends at Oakey's
Roanoke Chapel on Friday, February 4, 2000 from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
